Use a Lesson – A Set of Lessons Data Science for All – Transdisciplinary Application of AI
Dr. Rebecca Schroeder – 20 min

  • This session assumes no experience with data science. If you’re interested in diving deeper into data science lessons that are ready-to-teach, this workshop is for you. The 5 lessons will cover data science and AI concepts.

Modify a Lesson - AI Applied to Social Inequities - Sentiment Analysis and Mortgage Data
Dr. Ashwin Malshe

This session assumes some exposure to R or Python programming or data science concepts. Two lessons:

  • Airline Text and Sentiment Analysis: This lesson analyzes tweets pertaining to six major US airlines using two types of analyses which include visualizing frequently used words in the tweets using a word cloud and analyzing sentiment to capture underlying emotions in the tweets. The sentiment analysis lesson uses a lexicon-based sentiment analysis approach to analyze customers' tweets with major airlines during the Covid-19 pandemic.
  • AI Applied to Social Inequities with Mortgage Data.

Create Your Own Lesson - Natural Language Processing for all Disciplines - No Experience Needed
Steffani Silva, Data Scientist and Gen AI Lesson Designer, MITRE

  • This session assumes no experience with natural language processing (NLP) or data science. If you’ve heard of ChatGPT and wonder how you could incorporate AI language models into your classroom, this workshop is for you! The lesson will begin with a gentle introduction to NLP and its applications. You will then work individually or in groups with other educators to develop your own NLP lesson in your domain, walking out of the 90-minute session with a customized lesson plan incorporating NLP into your class.
