Professor of Practice, Undergraduate Advisor of Record, Information Systems and Cybersecurity
Dr. Rita Mitra is a Professor of Practice in the Information Systems and Cyber Security department in the new College of AI, Cyber, and Computing (CAICC) at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Her teaching focuses on hands-on lab experiences in evolving technology, particularly in the areas of information security, artificial intelligence, and Internet of Things (IoT). Dr. Mitra is an advocate and developer of open educational resources (OER), a THECB 2025-2027 OER Fellow, and a Quality Matters Master Peer Reviewer. Dr. Mitra serves as an undergraduate advisor of record (UGAR), and a faculty advisor for the Online Cyber Security Association (OCSA) and Women in Cybersecurity at UTSA (WiCyS) student organizations.
Dr. Mitra was a classical pianist, violinist, and educator for many years before starting a second career in computer science, and a third in cybersecurity. She finds it a privilege to learn alongside her students, and to impart a creative, collaborative and improvisational mindset towards today's technological security challenges.
